Although I loved to draw and paint as a child, my journey into art really began at St Martin’s School of Art, followed by three years at Goldsmith's in South London where I studied Visual Communications.
After graduating I worked as a freelance illustrator mainly for the Crown Agents, creating stamps for Commonwealth countries such as the Falkland Islands, Pitcairn and Solomon Islands.
With the increasing pressure of finding a full time employment I gave up illustration to further a career in design. Several years later I took the decision to pick up my brushes again, studying watercolour painting at Heatherley’s School of Art. Here I explored the versatility of the medium and the challenges it created. My aim was to divest myself of earlier detailed work in favour of a new unfettered adventure into watercolours and mixed media.
This exploration continues today as I enjoy seeing the pigment move across the paper, ever changing and merging. The results can be unpredictable, liberating and even surprising, like the elements that surround us. Sometimes I just surrender, letting nature take a hand to leave its mark.
Although a Yorkshire woman at heart I am now based in Somerset, close to the Levels. Here my love of wild spaces which so influenced me growing up continues to captivate and inspire me, it’s where I feel most at home.
